A Saltwater Dream | CXI 2026

Christmas Island March 9th – March 17th 2026:

We’re heading back to one of our favorite places, Christmas Island (Kiritimati), and we’d love for you to join us. This place is about as good as it gets when it comes to saltwater fly fishing—large and plentiful bonefish, powerful giant trevally, finicky Triggerfish, and plenty of variety across miles of pristine flats. It’s remote, wild, and unlike anywhere else in the world, making it a true bucket-list destination for anglers of all levels.

Christmas Island is part of the island nation of Kiribati, located in the central Pacific Ocean just north of the equator. It’s about a three-hour flight south of Hawaii, which makes it one of the most accessible far-flung fishing destinations you can reach. Despite being so remote, the island is well set up for anglers, with experienced local guides and simple but comfortable accommodations. You’ll feel worlds away, surrounded by endless turquoise water and a fishery that’s as diverse as it is exciting.

Itinerary:

Day 1 ( Monday, March 9th) – Arrive Honolulu (HNL) on Monday or prior to overnight at your preferred accommodations. This portion of the trip is not included and will be needed to arrange independently.

Day 2 (Tuesday, March 10th) – Depart Honolulu (HNL) Tuesday afternoon at 12 PM Hawaiian-Aleutian Standard Time, for a quick 3 hour flight to Cassidy International Airport (CXI). Reminder, we will be crossing the international date line. When we land on Christmas Island, it will technically be March 11th.

Day 2 Cont. (Wednesday, March 11th) – Arrive Christmas Island. Upon entry into Kiribati, we will fill out a customs form and collect our baggage. Once we clear customs we will be picked up in trucks by our drivers, and transported about 45 minutes to the lodge, Sunset Horizon FIshing Lodge. We will then have time this evening to prepare our tackle for the following 6 days of fishing.

Day 3 – Day 8 (Thursday, March 12th – Tuesday March 17th) – 6 Full days of guided fly fishing on the extensive flats of Christmas Island. Each morning we will leave the beach via truck or outrigger boat to explore all the island has to offer. 95% of fishing will be done by sight casting in shallow water to cruising fish, while wading.

Here is a typical days’ schedule, but reminder we are on the locals island time! Give or take 30 minutes or so to this sample schedule.

6:00 AM – Wake up.

6:30 AM – Breakfast and Coffee.

7:30 AM – Depart for the Flats.

8:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Full Day of Fishing.

5:30 PM – Return to the lodge, and tell fish stories from the day.

7:00 PM – Dinner

Day 9 (Wednesday, March 18th) – Sadly, our fishing has come to an end and it’s time to return home. In the morning, everyone will gather their gear and jump in the trucks heading back for Cassidy International Airport (CXI). Flights depart for Honolulu (HNL) at 7:35 AM Line Islands Time. Reminder, we will be crossing the international date line. When we land on Honolulu, it will technically be March 17th.

Day 9 Cont. (Tuesday, March 17th) – Arrive in Honolulu, and make your connecting flights home. It’s not recommended to book a flight prior to 1 PM this day.
