11/22/2024 – As the Cascade Lakes Highway is now closed, Hosmer is virtually inaccessible. However, it can be legally fished year-round.


11/8/2024 – Judging from the amount of snow on the Cascades, Hosmer Lake may soon be inaccessible. Very cold water temps may make the fish slightly sluggish, though stripping small (#12-16 Leeches, Mayer’s Mini Leeches (olive or black), or small Woolly Buggers through the channels will catch fish if they are actively feeding.


10/26/2024 – As one of the highest-elevation lakes (that is fished consistently), the weather at Hosmer turns a bit earlier than it does here in Bend. As the weather is looking pretty shaky at best, I would recommend finding another body of water for your fishing expedition.

If you’re willing to brave the elements, leeches are king this time of year.

About the Water

Just on the westward slope of Mt. Bachelor, Hosmer has a picturesque backdrop. Not that the large brook trout, rainbows or cutthroat aren’t reason enough to enjoy time on Hosmer. This lake is a fly fishing only lake that does not allow the use of gas motors, which makes this lake even more appealing. The word is out on how beautiful this setting is, so expect to see a few kayakers and stand up paddle boarders. This lake is easily fished out of float tubes, however, drift boats are our preferred method to cover water.

All Oregon fishing licenses can be purchased online or by downloading the MyODFW app on your smart phone. An Oregon Angling License required for any and all fishing.

This is genius! A fly fishing shop and beer in the same place. Yes, please! This is a great spot to duck away from the chain stores of the Old Mill area.
