Davis Lake

Cattails, lily pads, reeds. This is Bass country. If a trout sipping a size 18 parachute Adams gets you excited, you might not be able to control yourself when a 4-pound largemouth bass blows up your 2-inch-long frog popper! This is a fly fishing only lake but the use of motors is allowed. Find structure and weed beds to fish, as bass are ambush predators.

Guide Report

September 16, 2018

Trout fishing has been decent, though the water is pretty low right now. Stripping a leech or damsel nymph will probably be the only reliable way to catch fish. A few callibaetis are around still, but tapering off.

Bass fishing is alright as well, though as weather cools, fishing will slow down in a hurry. Poppers, Rabbit Strip Divers, and baitfish patterns have been good for bass. It's frog season, so fish frog colors. Olive with a light belly is a great option. Baby rainbow and whitefish colored streamers are extremely effective for bass, so fish white, white and olive, grey, and gold colors. Don't be afraid to get flashy with your streamers too, as bass are extremely predatory and attracted to anything that flashes and moves.
